B.J. Thornton, Jr., also affectionate known as “Butch”, was born on July 3,1954 to the parentage of the late B.J. Thornton, Sr. and Maggie Mae Cook, in Georgetown, GA. He was called into eternal rest on January 18, 2026, at South East Health, in Dothan, AL.
He joined New Hope Church at an early age, where he attended faithfully.
He graduated from Speight High School, in Fort Gaines, GA.
B.J. served 2 years in the United States Military and 14 years in the National Guard Reserve. He later joined the Clay County School System, where he was employed for over 25 years. He also worked as a farmer for more than 15 years. B.J. was a very hard worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kendale Thornton; three brothers, Robert, Donald, and Charles Thornton; two sisters, Catherine and Carolyn Thornton.
He leaves to cherish his everlasting memories, his common-law wife for many, many years, Carolyn Davis; daughter, Precious Davis; son, Mario Thornton (Lakiesha); two step-sons, Ronaldo and Rashard Walker; God-daughter, Damonia Bass; three sisters, Gladys Thornton and Annie Govan of Fort Gaines, GA, and Marjorie Hilton of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Bobby Thornton (Marie) of Eufaula, AL; four grandchildren, Mario Dean, Tamia Lawrence (Steven), and Tekeyla and Omarion Thornton; five great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Razira and Antwain Walker; two sisters-n-law, Darlene Davis Flowers (Kendrick) of Leesburg, Ga, and Gearldine Childress (Robert) of Fort Gaines, GA; two brothers-n-law, Charlie and Timmie Davis; special friends, Bennie Davis, Sr., B.J. Thomas, Corey Johnson, Wayne Marble, David Jackson, and Wayne Culver; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many life-long friends.
